Metso Slurry Pump Rebuild, part 2

component as received

In another Power Station example, on stripping a Metso Slurry pump to its component parts, extensive erosion to the expellor had taken place as a result of the abrasive nature of the slurry.

The eroded expellor was grit-blasted to SA 2.5 with 75 micron finish and the vanes were re-profiled with pre-cut templates.

The expellor was rebuilt with Belzona 1311 Ceramic R Metal to reduce erosion and abrasion; Belzona 1311 also has outstanding resistance to oxidising agents, thereby increasing the Mean Time Between Failures.

The expellor was finally built-up and re-contoured to its original profile with two coats of Belzona 1321 Ceramic Coating to reduce erosion when back in service.

The lead time and cost of this repair are greatly reduced versus sourcing new components from the manufacturer. The Belzona coating also has increased wear resistence versus the original material specification.
